Inspiration
In this section we help you to define your story and set your target audience.
What is your story?
Why was your business started? What do you want your customers to experience today? What is it that gets you, but also your customers, up in the morning? Do you want to be the best? But then, the best in what?
Write down your story in one page or less. Involve the whole staff when creating the story. When you have a clear picture of your story, you may find that there are sub-stories to tell. Make sure you tell your (potential) customers about the essence of your story in all of your communication and integrate it everywhere.
The service, the 'hardware', your staff, design, everything
The story is your 'brand' and it is reflected in every aspect of the business. From service offered, the way the staff communicates, the look and feel of all of your marketing communication in text, photography, etc.
The Value Proposition Canvas
The Value Proposition Canvas can help you create a structured view of what your guests want and what holds them back from choosing you and what they may experience as extras benefits. This structured view can be very helpful in getting the right message across to your guests.
Are you having a hard time to come up with a written text?
A lot has been written lately about using Articifial Intellegence (AI) to write texts. Chat GPT is such a tool that can help you come up with texts for your website and your marketing material. It is new, has flaws, is sometimes unavailable, but can give you a good start if you struggle creating texts just by yourself. There is a similar service called jasper.ai with a limited free trial service.
Case: Okavango Lodge
Their story is all about a homely, African experience, showing it in photos of the courtyard, the staff, the art around the lodge and the meals served. Quite another approach than just beds, bathrooms and the reception.
'Live the brand'
Okavango wants you to feel at home and comfortable at their lodge. So in every room you will find information about the essential services in the lodge (breakfast time, WiFi, the check out time) and the area (restaurants, shopping, pharmacy etc.) And they provide information about tours they will be happy to book for you. A friendly gesture to feel at home.
Hoping that guests will book a next time through the Okavango website rather than the expensive booking.com, guests receive a business card with the essential details.
Guests are also invited to write a review on Google, Facebook, booking.com or TripAdvisor.
Case: the website Maano Adventures
Maano Adventures is all about enjoying nature and wildlife around Livingstone, Zambia: with adventurous wild water rafting and breathtaking safaris. When visiting their site, you should feel the thrill of rafting down the Zambezi River and the magnificent wildlife and scenery of southern Africa. Choosing guests in the picture tells the site visitor: 'This could be you!'
